Dr. Reija Ruuhela is a senior climate expert at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). She has a long career at FMI in various positions in weather and climate services and research, and she has actively been promoting use of climate information in planning and decision-making in all sectors of society. In recent years, she has specialized onto health impacts of weather and climate, and healthy built environment. She has also been involved in development of health related services such as heat and cold weather warnings in Finland. Currently she participates also the work of the WHO-WMO Expert Group on Integrated Health Science and Services. As a coordinator of climate change adaptation in the ministry of agriculture and forestry in Finland, she has gained further expertise in implementation of adaptation measures.
